What is a varicocele repair?
A varicocele is an enlarged varicose vein in the scrotum that occurs as a result of malfunctioning valves controlling the blood flow to the testicles. This increased pressure causes swelling. They usually occur in the left testicle and can affect fertility, so it is important that you have them looked at.
What are the symptoms?
Symtoms may include the following:
● Aching pain in the scrotum.
● Heavy feeling in the testicle.
● Possibly visible.
What does the procedure involve?

This surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic so you will be asleep and you won’t feel any pain.
Using surgical instruments, a small incision is made in the abdomen. The veins that are feeding the varicocele are identified and cut in order to stop the blood flow to the enlarged varicose vein.
The incision will then be stitched up.
There is also a non-invasive procedure that can treat this condition. This is called embolization.
In this procedure, a coil or embolic fluid is placed in a blood vessel. This diverts the blood flow away from the enlarged vein allowing it to shrink.
Recovery time depends on the individual, however, you should be able to return to light activities after 2 days and your usual routine after a week.
