Coccygectomy

Coccygectomy is a surgical procedure involving the removal of the coccyx, or tailbone, typically performed when the patient has chronic coccygodynia (pain in the tailbone) that does not respond to conservative treatments. This may result from injury, childbirth, or repetitive trauma. The procedure is considered when other treatments, such as physical therapy, pain management, or injections, fail to relieve the pain.
