Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed. This surgery is commonly performed to treat various conditions affecting the uterus, such as fibroids, cancer, endometriosis, uterine prolapse, and abnormal bleeding.

Types of Hysterectomy:

  1. Total Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus and cervix.
  2. Subtotal (or Partial) Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus, but the cervix is left intact.
  3. Radical Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus, cervix, parts of the vagina, and surrounding tissues, often performed when cancer is present.
  4. Hysterectomy with Oophorectomy: Removal of the uterus along with one or both ovaries.
