Echo

An echocardiogram, or an ‘echo’, is a non-invasive ultrasound scan that evaluates the heart’s structure and function. It is used to diagnose a number of heat conditions and identify diseases.

What happens during an echocardiogram?

Your Echo sonographer will discuss the procedure with you beforehand, ensuring you feel calm and comfortable. If you have any questions or concerns before your echocardiogram, you can speak to one of our expert radiologists.

During the echocardiogram, you lie on your side. The radiologist will apply a gel to the transducer (scanner) and then place it on your chest, moving it around to get an accurate scan. The Transducer sends out high-frequency sound waves which pass through the chest and into your heart, and the sound waves bounce off your heart so the transducer picks up the echoes. It is a harmless process, resulting in a clear image of your heart being shown on the screen.
