CT Scan
“CT” stands for Computed Tomography Scan and is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses a combination of x-rays and computer technology to produce images of the inside of the body.
A CT scan can help to diagnose many conditions, including fractures, brain bleeds, internal injuries, traumatic injuries such a strokes, tumours, inflammatory diseases, and diseases of the heart, lungs, kidney, and spine.
During a CT scan, you will be asked to lie back on a table that moves into a ring-shaped scanner. X-rays are rotated around your body in the scanner, creating cross-sectional images, which are amalgamated to generate a 3D image of the body part being scanned.
The scan usually takes between 10 – 20 minutes. You will need to lie still, and you might be given an injection of contrast dye. If this is the case, your appointment letter will provide all the details you need.
