Professional bio

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2001 and since then I have been working in the NHS for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. After completing my basic grade rotations I began to specialise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. It was during a senior rotation in hand therapy that I became fascinated by the hand and its’ treatment. I have worked in the hand therapy unit at the Royal Gwent for over ten years and I am now the clinical specialist physiotherapist for hands for the health board. As clinical lead, I link closely with the orthopaedic consultants to ensure the best practice and best level of care is followed for each client. I have built professional relationships with many of the consultants that work at St Josephs and I will utilise my existing links with them to ensure clients receive the best care. I see a wide variety of hand complaints but I am particularly interested in orthopaedic hand conditions including Dupuytren’s disease, fractures of the hand and wrist, and soft tissue conditions. I relish a complicated case and enjoy working with a client to facilitate their rehabilitation to return to their work, sports, and hobbies. I am trained in wound care and can provide bespoke thermoplastic splints as part of the rehabilitation of a client or as a stand-alone treatment.

I am a member of the British Association of Hand Therapists and I am currently balancing full time work with studying the only MSc course in hand therapy in the UK. On completion of this I will gain a level 3 BAHT qualification (Accredited Hand Therapist).

Away from work, I enjoy spending time with my young family. I enjoy watching sport, especially rugby. When I can find the time, I enjoy surfing and running to keep fit. I completed the Cardiff half-marathon in 2013.
