Mr Abdelrahman is an Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgeon working as a consultant at the University Hospital of Wales since 2020. He is the clinical lead for Upper GI surgery in Cardiff managing a high-volume tertiary referral practice for patients from across South Wales. He has a specialist interest in surgery for oesophageal and gastric cancer. Alongside his cancer work Mr Abdelrahman has an expertise in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, gall stones and hernias. As an accredited endoscopist he also regularly performs diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Mr Abdelrahman routinely uses minimally invasive surgical techniques and has played a key role in the successful introduction of robotic upper gastrointestinal surgery to Wales. He remains dedicated to improving outcomes for his patients through research and governance. He was awarded a postgraduate doctorate (MD) following a period of full-time research into surgical training and continues to publish regularly with over 40 peer-reviewed papers. He has presented widely at international forums and is the principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials, working collaboratively with colleagues throughout the UK.
Mr Abdelrahman graduated from Southampton University and has worked across the south of England and Wales, completing a 12-month specialist fellowship in oesophagogastric cancer surgery prior to taking up his current role in Cardiff.
