Dr Michelle Olver graduated from Cardiff University in 2007. She initially embarked on a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Having completed 3 years of O+G training, Dr Olver applied and successfully gained one of only two training jobs in Wales for Community Sexual and Reproductive Health.
The 6 year specialty adopts a life course approach to women’s health incorporating contraception, community gynaecology, sexual health, psychosexual health, public health and menopause. Dr Olver completed all her training in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and became a Consultant in 2019 and was awarded the Advanced certificate in menopause care.
Dr Olver now leads the specialist menopause service for Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. She ensures that every woman has a chance to be heard and managed individually in a holistic manner.
Dr Olver has been responsible for establishing a prescribing guideline for all health care professionals to make access and provision to menopause care easier for women. She has worked closely with Public Health to set up menopause cafes in the community to support the public. Finally, she ensures staff within the health board are supported and this had led to the development of the staff menopause clinic.
Dr Olver is a recognised trainer for professional qualifications in menopause care for both the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health and the British Menopause Society. In 2021, she was awarded an honorary lecturer title from Cardiff University in recognition of her input into student education. Dr Olver also gave a keynote lecture at the inaugural Wales Menopause Network conference on PMDD.
Dr Michelle Olver has worked with Wales Online and ITV Cymru to discuss the myths around the menopause. She also gives talks to commercial companies to discuss how to manage the menopause in the workplace.
