Job Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for undertaking a range of housekeeping duties, which includes cleaning of clinical and non-clinical areas around the Hospital site, disposing of clinical and non-clinical waste, dealing with clean and dirty laundry and making hospital beds, working with COSHH, re-stocking dispensers with consumables, and making up patient gift sets. . The position reports to the Housekeeping Supervisor who may instruct you to undertake other relevant duties associated with the domestic service to support the Housekeeping Team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Liaise with the Housekeeping Supervisor on the areas allocated for cleaning, the
replenishment and use of approved cleaning chemicals and consumables and any additional
tasks for the day.
• Liaise with Clinical Staff regarding the priorities for the daily cleaning requirements, for the
coordination of any deep cleans when required and to receive advice on areas that may
have restricted access or require specific precautions during the cleaning process.
• Collaborate and coordinate with colleagues to allow cleaning to be undertaken productively
and efficiently, ensuring that all aspects of a room are signed off upon completion of the
cleaning schedule.
• Having received priorities for daily cleaning, organise your own work accordingly, working
from cleanest areas to dirtiest, and highest areas to lowest. Assist in the economic use of
resources and advise on the maintenance of reasonable stock levels and participating in the
reordering process when directed.
• Maintain safe infection prevention practices following correct infection barrier controls as
directed, practice excellent hand hygiene at all times and use colour-coded equipment.
• Movement of equipment or stores from one area to another if/when required.
• Assist in the implementation and adherence of changes to cleaning procedures, and be able
to comment on them.
• Offer guidance and support to others with less experience within the team through good
communication and demonstration of a sound professional knowledge of practice.
• Participate in cleaning audits for your relevant department and contribute to rectify any
issues identified in the department.
• Re-stock patient gift sets in accordance with Hospital policy.
• Capture cleanliness feedback from patients and visitors.
• Demonstrate exemplary customer service and professionalism at all time.
• Remove both clinical and non-clinical waste from hospital departments and deposit in Hospital waste compound, adhering to waste segregation requirements.
• React responsively to Housekeeping helpdesk calls when required.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties that are commensurate with the role of a Housekeeper, such as cleaning extract fans, Machine cleaning, etc.

Essential
Maths and English GCSE
To have significant experience in cleaning techniques and methods
Evidence of ability to perform independently or as part of a team whilst demonstrating the values and behaviours expected of the organisation.
Proven ability to manage own workload and prioritise when there are competing priorities.
Able to demonstrate the essential values and commitment required to delivering a high-quality Service
Ability to always maintain a friendly and positive body language and personable demeanour.
Knowledge of COSHH
Committed to personal and professional development
Able to work hours flexibly.
Possess a hard-working nature with an attention to detail and a proactive approach to undertaking your duties
Proven ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including; patients, staff-members, visitors, suppliers & environmental health
Evidence of good literacy skills and the ability to understand instructions, guidance, policies and procedures
Knowledge of preparing and using cleaning chemicals
Knowledge of NHS colour coding for cleaning equipment
Desirable
To have experience of cleaning in a healthcare environment
Knowledge of using machinery (corded/cordless)
